Gianni Brezzo - the Jazz affiliated band/studio project, headed by Cologne-based producer, multi-instrumentalist and musical mastermind Marvin Horsch - hereby presents the Jakarta Records debut "The Awakening" - a record not only showcasing Brezzo’s versatile but still jazz focused approach and style but also displaying Horsch’s pure talent as a musician and a songwriter whilst perfectly delivering that very own, very personal and deeply wonderful melancholy and moody jazz vibes.
And despite Gianni Brezzo releases usually coming as instrumental only this EP features appearances by Jakarta Record’s affiliated artists such as Berlin/Tel Aviv based singer and producer J.Lamotta just as Soul singer Otis Junior from Louisville, Kentucky contributing their signature vocal and lyrical approaches, giving the record an additional soulful note.
The EP’s 1st single “Flower Rain” draws inspiration from Jazz musicians and songwriters like Mathew Halsall, Tommy Guererro and Jaakko Eino Kalevi and turned out to become a mélange of all three of them, making the song similarly traditional and unique while keeping its rhythm and harmonies quite simple. The song got picked up for Spotify Playlists “State Of Jazz” (480K) and “All New Jazz” (19K) as well as for the Apple Music Jazz Playlist “New Latitudes” right away.
The 2nd single happens to be the EP’s title track „The Awakening” and deals with Horsch’s very own awakening in regards of how and when he’s creating music and that after all musical journeys and experiments the center piece of his art always was and still is his acoustic guitar. No effects, no amps, nothing but handmade jazz with soul, heart & attitude – a pure moment of clarity.
The 3rd and final single is called “Beirut” and features singer J.Lamotta (who's born in Tel Aviv to a family with Moroccan roots) on vocals and lyrics and as she approaches the song's very sensitive subject quite heartwarming and carefully while Gianni perfectly catches and covers that mood on the musical side. The song will also come with a video shot by Israelian Filmmaker and photographer Boaz Aquino.
The record’s simple but powerful artwork design comes from Simone Cihlar (Seed, Anderson Paak., Tom Misch, etc.). The according animations, videos and canvas come from visual artist 12inchmotion (Farhot, FloFilz, Yassin, etc.).
